Waitrose is dedicated to offering quality food that has been responsibly sourced combined with high standards of customer service. The Waitrose.com website serves over 1 million users per month with rich content, multiple online shopping experiences, and with over 56 000 customers subscribed to the Waitrose ISP service, has a strong Internet presence and customer base.
Following a successful design consultation with Waitrose, Neue Media were given the task of creating a new area for Mark Price, Managing Director of Waitrose. Fondly referred to in the press as the ‘Chubby Grocer’, Mark needed a platform within his Waitrose.com site to document the progress of his first new venture in 2008. Mark would follow a nutritionally balanced diet in his bid to shed 10cm off his waistline and become the ‘Not so chubby’ grocer. This area of the site would allow Mark to share his personal thoughts and progress through this period of slimming and would allow Waitrose users to read his comments and offer support and encouragement through posts of their own. An expert nutritionist would also report on Mark’s progress and answer any nutritional questions Waitrose customers may have.
Neue Media’s wanted to retain the characteristics of the main Waitrose.com website but allow some of the personality of Mark Price to shine through. The flexibility of the final design has allowed Mark the freedom to create entries in a ‘blog’ style format and offer Waitrose customers a clean and clear page structure that allows them quick access to summarised content and functionality to respond to Mark’s comments.
